First and Only Time Wins for Louisiana Woman

“You could have knocked me over with a feather,” Marci Hancock of Denham Springs, Louisiana, says, when she received an email from David Boland informing her she won $1,000 in the Friday, June 5, drawing.

She had joined on Wednesday, June 1, and made her first and only submission on that day.

“It was crazy.  I came home from vacation and found this email saying I had won. I had hardly paid any attention to the fact that AdJack was a sweepstake.”

Marci is one of those people who simply enjoys a great commercial.  “I came to AdJack through a back door,” she says.  “A friend sent me a link to a site called Family Hack that talked about how to retrieve something from a drain without using a wrench, so you know how you follow a couple of links every now and then and wind up someplace? Well, this Family Hack guy said something about AdJack on his site, so I took a look.  I love good commercials.

“The first one I watched, about the girl thinking her boyfriend’s iPod was a pregnancy test—I practically rolled on the floor on that one.”

So she registered, watched four more commercials, made one submission without even so much as changing any numbers, and went off on vacation, never giving AdJack a second thought.

When she got back, Boland’s email was waiting with the good news, but Marci’s husband scoffed.  “That’s a scam,” he said.  “Don’t embarrass yourself by responding.” But she decided to take a closer look at the website.  “If it’s a scam, they go to awfully great lengths to convince people,” she said.  “I’m going to answer.

“I can count on one hand—maybe a couple of fingers--the times I have signed up for any sweepstake,” Marci says.  “It’s just not something I do.  But funny ads are always a big deal to me.  I love a well-done commercial. I can always use something at work to break the stress.  As far as entering the sweepstakes, that was a bonus, but I never expected to win.  I was speechless, truly speechless.
It was my first and only one time ever on AdJack. Believe me, I’ll definitely be paying attention in the future.”

Hello VEEH. Although I am one smart ass, David Boland, CEO of AdJack, knows the probability factors very well and can best speak to the point of why there are more frequent CrackaJack winners and so far, no MoJack or MadJack winners. We have more to say on several issues you raise, and will address them in blogs soon, so be on the lookout. Thanks for the opportunity for civil discussion.

Jack, One Smart Ass ~ Thank you for your response. This is a comment, not a question, so I'll write it here. Just to clarify, I do not feel entitled to win just because I submit numbers every week, I realize that it’s a matter of luck, but given that we only have to match 5 out of 30 numbers out of the first 5 numbers and only 1 out of 5 numbers for the sixth number, I’m just surprised there aren’t more winners every week especially since we can submit 8 entries every week. Statistically the odds of winning are really good compared to most lotteries, regardless of how many people are submitting numbers every week. At the end of this month it will have been eight months that I have been coming here, so yes, I am very surprised that during that time no one has won any of the larger prizes, if I am alone in feeling that way, then so be it. And you are absolutely right, no one is paying to watch commercials here. I was always under the impression that advertisers were paying money to get people to watch their commercials with the intention of gaining more customers for their services or products, so the thought of anyone paying to watch a commercial seems rather odd to me. I was not aware that there were sites that people visited every day just for the joy of watching commercials, so thank you for enlightening me, and truly, I‘m really not feeling that sensitive about that particular subject. But I would be curious to know how many people are coming here because they really want to win something or just because they love watching and commenting on commercials. I guess we’ll never know unless you decide to poll your members on the subject. Also, thank you for acknowledging that sometimes there are technical problems with your site when signing on to submit numbers for the drawing. I mentioned it before and didn’t receive a response from you. I do realize that you don’t have to participate in the drawing in order to win, but it would be nice to at least have an opportunity to do so since it’s the members who are choosing the winning numbers.

Hello VEEH. I'm sorry you're so frustrated by not winning, but I am also surprised at your sense of entitlement. It seems you feel entitled to win since you submit numbers daily. AdJack is an entertainment site. The chance to win money is a bonus, but millions--far more than come to AdJack--watch commercials on other Internet sites that offer no reward except the fun of watching and commenting. One is tempted to say "Go figure," but it appears you are highly sensitive on this subject, so I'll refrain from any comment that might further inflame you. There's nothing I can do about how the numbers fall. That is purely a matter of probability. The fact that some people do indeed win is proof that AdJack is legitimate. You are correct in stating that the AdJack odds favor playing members far more than any state lottery. You did not mention that neither you nor anyone else is paying to enjoy the commercials on AdJack, so I must argue that your anger, frustration and disappointment are futile, and counterproductive. You are the master of your time, so you must make decisions about how to best spend it. Odds are best for winning the CrackaJack prize, and if you are a student of sweepstakes prizes, you know that $1,000 is a very generous award, relative to most prizes. The odds against winning either the MoJack and MadJack prizes are far greater. The more AdJack members there are who play, the greater the probability is that someone will win one or both of those prizes. Multi-millions of people buy lottery tickets for a chance to win the Powerball. Multi-millions are not yet submitting numbers weekly at AdJack, although we often wonder why, when it's free, and a great venue for watching entertaining commercials. AdJack is a Web2.0 business that is still in beta, which means it is still in trial phase and occasionally experiences technical difficulties. I'm sorry you weren't able to participate by contributing a number or to view the drawing, but neither of those activities are required to win. If you have further questions, please contact

Jack, One Smart Ass ~ I will address you directly, this time with the hope that you will respond seriously without being sarcastic, condescending or just blatantly ignoring me. Since November of 2008 I have been watching commercials here almost every single day!!!! That's 8 entries per week, most every week, yet I haven't won anything. Nada!!! NOTHING! That's almost 7 months! I don't doubt that the people listed here aren't legitimate winners, but I am beginning to think I am wasting my time here. Let's face it...aren't most people coming here with the hope that they will have a chance to win some $$$$$? Yet week after week, no one wins the MoJack or Adjack prizes. I think that is rather odd, especially since the odds of winning here are much MUCH better than winning Powerball. At least with Powerball there's a jackpot winner every few weeks. Something isn't right here. This week, the second week this month, I have signed on 10 minutes before the drawing and I wasn't able to participate or view the drawing. This time I was using a different network and computer, so I'm ruling out that it's my computer or network as being the problem. I don't know what to think. No one is coming here week after week because they love watching 5 commercials every day, I don't care what they say to the contrary! You guys are profiting from our daily presence here so it's becoming rather disheartening to say the least. I know a lot of people don't want to say anything because they don't to rock the boat because they want to win and are doing their best to remain hopeful, but please! Anyone who has been here for awhile has to have had some doubts about you guys. I'd like to see someone win something more than the $1,000. If you've been able to keep a $500k jackpot up for grabs week after week, then obviously you're getting paid some big bucks. What's going on? Why aren't we seeing more winners????

I really enjoyed this lady's story. I know the feeiing on a smaller scale, as I haven't won that big, but just to win something just thrills me to death. I want to congratulate her too, and hope she can have more good luck!

Thanks! The whole thing is still a bit surreal, but also very cool! Good luck to all.

Wow...lucky you. Congratulations! AdJack ~ As a side note...this last Friday, I signed on about 10 minutes before 6PM EST and waited and waited for the drawing to start but it never did. I refreshed the page after 6PM and saw that it had already taken place. I haven't had a problem seeing the drawing before, and was wondering if anyone else had a problem on Friday.

How cool a story is that? I love that. Congratulations.
